The Qwerkies

The Qwerkies

In the summer of 2025, we celebrated the 20th anniversary of The Iron Men which was also our own 20th anniversary as In Another Place community theatre company.

Our main event was a two part performance on the 12th July.

The Trail

The Qwerkies were weather resistant so the trail was left up for the whole summer holiday period, in safe places, like peoples’ gardens or businesses. It was fully accessible by foot or cycle / wheelchair / buggy all the way to Bootle Strand and the Salt and Tar.  There is a map below so you can see where the different sections of the trail were.  Along the way there were many “Qwerkies” for people to find, both big and small, representing the variety of people and diversity we enjoy. The Qwerkies were all made from recycled materials by different schools and community groups, faith groups and businesses too. They will stayed for the whole summer holidays as a fun activity to find and to encourage exercise and use of Sefton’s green spaces.

The Trail opened with 40 Qwerkies, The Qwerkie Trail started at The Bus Yard Bar on Waterloo Promenade and followed a 4 mile route to the Salt and Tar next to Bootle Strand.  (Though some people did it the other way around!)
Directions from Waterloo to Bootle.
From the Bus Yard walk around the Marine Lake to the Lakeside building.
Turn right and follow the path towards the Royal Hotel.
Walk straight ahead up Great George's Road.

At the end, turn right into Park Road which becomes St.Mary's Road.
Enter Rimrose Valley Country Park ahead of you.
Follow the path going east, across the park to the Leeds Liverpool Canal.
Turn right and follow the canal all the way to Bootle.
