The Trail

The Qwerkies are weather resistant so the trail can be left up for the whole summer holiday period, in safe places, like peoples’ gardens or businesses. It will be fully accessible by foot or cycle / wheelchair / buggy all the way to Bootle Strand and the Salt and Tar.  There is a map below so you can access different sections of the trail on different occasions, and also to show how to reach it by bus or train or car.  Along the way there are many “Qwerkies” for people to find, both big and small, representing the variety of people and diversity we enjoy. The Qwerkies are all be made from recycled materials by different schools and community groups, faith groups and businesses too.   They will stay up for the whole summer holidays as a fun activity to find and to encourage exercise and use of Sefton’s green spaces.

The Trail is now open with 40 Qwerkies looking forward to meeting you along the way.
The Qwerkie Trail starts at The Bus Yard Bar on Waterloo Promenade and follows a 4 mile route to the Salt and Tar next to Bootle Strand.  (Or you could do it the other way round!)
Directions from Waterloo to Bootle.
From the Bus Yard walk around the Marine Lake to the Lakeside building.
Turn right and follow the path towards the Royal Hotel.
Walk straight ahead up Great George's Road.
At the Five Lamps on Liverpool Road cross over and go slightly left then right into Bramhall Road.
At the end, turn right into Park Road which becomes St.Mary's Road.
Enter Rimrose Valley Country Park ahead of you.
Follow the path going east, across the park to the Leeds Liverpool Canal.
Turn right and follow the canal all the way to Bootle.
Come off the canal at Stanley Road and you have reached the Salt and Tar.
Congratulations.  How many Qwerkies did you find?

Share your photos on Social Media, and spread the word.
